New Ancient “Mystery Human” Species Identified Shakes Up The Theory Of Evolution
Evolution is the biological model for the history of human life on earth, it refers to decent with modification. But, recently a discovery was made that could change everything that we know about evolution.
It is important to remember that there is still a lot that we do not know or understand about evolution, and it is far from complete.
One discovery was made over a year ago where researchers discovered what looks to be an entirely new species of hominid in a cave in Siberia. The DNA detected traces of what is known as a “Denisovan,” a body of people believed to be mysterious cousins of the Neanderthals. But, what makes this odd is the fact that the genome also contains bits of DNA which are completely unknown, from a unidentifiable group of people.
These results suggest that interbreeding occurred among multiple ancient human-like groups in Europe and Asia over 30,000 years ago. “What it begins to suggest is that we’re looking at a Lord of the Rings type world – that there were many hominid populations.” Mark Thomas, evolutionary geneticist at University College London.
These two gene pools are believed to have bred with modern humans, contributing to the genetic diversity of many people now. Making genetic diversity far more complex than we could ever even begin to comprehend. “The best explanation is that the Denisovans interbred with an unidentified species, and picked up some of their DNA. Denisovans harbour ancestry from an unknown archaic population, unrelated to Neanderthals.” David Reich of Harvard Medical School.
There is still a lot of information about our origin that we still do not know, but this is just one step to what will eventually shed light on the mystery of human origin.
